Francisco Juan Martínez Mojica, also known as Francis Mojica (Elche, Alicante, 5th October 1963) is university full professor from the Department of Physiology, Genetics and Microbiology of the University of Alacant. He is known internationally for making early contributions (1993) which described the CRISPR repeat sequences in archaea and their role in the mechanisms of prokaryotic cell immunity. His discovery crystallised later in the CRISPR-Cas technology development.

In 2016 he was awarded with the prize Premio Rey Jaime I a la Investigación Básica for his contributions to the development of the science in Spain. He has been awarded in the 9th edition (2016) with the prize Premio Fundación BBVA Fronteras del Conocimiento in the category of Biomedicine along with Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna. In Augoust 2017 he has been distinguished with the Albany Medical Centre Prize, the most important award of the United States in the medical research field.
