Valencian university sports lived an intense week with the celebration of two important events at the Autonomic University Sports Championship (CAEU). Rugby offered excitement and competition at Castelló, while the Universitat de València became the undisputed protagonist at Valencian pilota, with a historic performance in the matches organised by the Polytechnic University of València.

The UV completely dominates Valencian pilota

On Wednesday 17th of December, the UPV ‘trinquet’ (the court used in Valencian pilota) and the Blasco Ibáñez Sports Pavilion hosted the Valencian pilota phase of the CAEU, where the university delivered a stellar performance. Under the direction of coach Àlex Alandes Biendicho, the UV teams won 13 medals, among which there are 3 gold and 2 silver collective ones.

Rugby: excitement and getting ready for play-offs

On Thursday 11th the second CAEU rugby event was held, with the participation of the universities of the Valencian Community in both the men’s and women’s categories. The University Jaume I of Castelló co-organised the men’s competition, while the University Cardenal Herrera CEU organised the women’s.

In the women’s category, the UV performed excellently throughout the whole event.  The players began asserting themselves against the University of Alacant with 38-0 points, and they continued by beating the University Jaume I 32-0. The UV also won against the Catholic University of València 31-5 and concluded the event by beating the University Cardenal Herrera by a landslide with a 50-0, showing how solid the team is.

In the men’s category, the matches were intense and really close. The UV began with a solid win against the University of Alacant 38-7, and continued with a narrow victory against the University Jaume I 21-17. In a really close match, the Valencian tem tied with the Catholic University of València 31-31, and ended the event with a defeat against the University Cardenal Herrea 19-28, showing how competitive and balanced the teams are.

These results keep the UV teams in a favourable position ahead of the last event of the rugby gathering, which will be held on February 4th of 2026 in Alacant. This will be the key to decide which teams are in the play-offs.
With this, the University of València reinforces its fortitude in university sports, with Valencian pilota as the great protagonist of these CAEU events.
