The Minister of Finance and Economic Model of the Valencian government, Vicent Soler, opened today the online closing ceremony of the activities of the Network of Chairs for the Transformation of the Economic Model in the financial year 2020, the first in the life of the Network. The meeting took place this morning, with the participation of almost a hundred people from the academic, political and business fields. Soler thanked at the inauguration the work of the teams of the 5 chairs of the Valencian public universities that make up the Network: "their work - he said - helps us to intervene on reality, what they are doing is essential for us". In this line, the counselor has announced an increase in the budget of these chairs for the year 2021 and highlighted the chairs work in the areas of digitization, circular economy and energy transition, territorial development and social and inclusive innovation.

After the initial intervention of the minister, the five directors of the chairs at the Valencian universities exposed the balance of the year, highlighting the most rellevant scientific achievements of the year. Xavier Molina (Jaume I University), Francesc Hernández (University of Valencia); Paloma Taltavull (University of Alicante); José M. Bernabéu (Technical University of Valencia) and José Antonio Belso (Miguel Hernández University of Elche) explained the job of each team and concluded that the first year of the Network has been a success.

This part was followed by a debate with experts led by Juan Salvador Pérez, general director of Economic Model, Financing and Financial Policy, with the participation of Rafael Doménech and Francisco Mas. Domenech, professor at the University of Valencia and head of economic analysis at BBVA Research, as well as former director general of the Economic Office of the Prime Minister, has analyzed the potential that the European Union aid package for the pandemic represents for Spain. Then, Francisco Mas, technical secretary of the Valencian Innovation Council and professor at the UPV, has stressed that the channeling of EU resources "can accelerate some of the important reform lines of the Spanish economy" and has opted for the Valencian Community to incorporate a hub of digital innovation.

Finally, the event was closed by Juan Salvador Pérez, who thanked the 5 chairs for their work "in generating work and ideas for the development of public policies of the Generalitat Valenciana". The general director of Economic Model has invited the directors to "go thinking about the challenges of 2021".
