Lecturer Jaime Siles receives the Premi de la Crítica Literària Valenciana 2019 for poetry

Professor of Classical Philology of the Universitat de València Jaime Siles has been honoured with the Premi de la Crítica Literària Valenciana 2019 for poetry. The 28th edition of these awards, organised by CLAVE, has taken place this last Saturday at Rocafort. Sònia Alejo and Begoña Tena, Emilio La Parra and Isabel Barceló and María Bastarós have also been awarded for the categories of Dramatic Literature, Essay and Critic and Narrative, respectively.

Philologist, polyglot, literary critic, translator. Siles Ruiz has written more than twenty books, most of which are poetry works. He is also the author of studies carried out in cultural publications specialised in poetry and Spanish poets, as well as other authors (mostly Germans), or specialised in the relation between literature and philosophy. He is also a literary and theatre critic. As a poet and writer, he has been honoured with the Premi Ocnos, the Premio de la Crítica, the LOEWE Foundation International Poetry Prize and the Premio Generación del 27.

The poetry jury, made up of Ricardo Bellveser as president, Joaquín Juan Penalva as secretary and Juan Luis Bedins, Santiago Fortuño, Antonio M. Herrera, Juan Ramón Torregrosa and Rosa María Vilarroig as chairs, decided by majority to give the Premi de la Crítica Literaria Valenciana 2019 de Poesia to Jaime Siles, for Galeria de rara antigüedad (Visor, 2018) a book that offers a view of the Ancient Greece linked to the autobiographical self, either by means of real or made up devices.

These awards are sponsored by the Generalitat Valenciana and Rocafort City Hall. Two lecturers of the Universitat de València have participated in the organisation of the awards: critic José Vicente Peiró, from the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication as president, and Elia Saneleuterio Temporal, from the Faculty of Education, as secretary.

Some other lecturers from the Universitat de València have also been awarded with the Premi de la Crítica Literària Valenciana before: Pedro J. de la Penya, Jenaro Talens, Arcadio López-Casanova, Elia Saneleuterio Temporqal, Josep Lluís Sirera, Antonio Ariño and Adela Cortina, among others.
