Carmen Izquierdo Besante Monzó Foundation Awards 2016-17

Premios Fundación Carmen Izquierdo Besante Monzó

The Principal of the Universitat de València, Mª Vicenta Mestre; the Vice-principal of Studies and Linguistic Policies, Isabel Vázquez; and the Secretary of the Carmen Izquierdo Besante Monzó Foundation, Javier Pastor; have recognised the best academic records of the graduates and the first course students of the 2016-17 academic year.

The director of the School of Engineering Paula Marzal; the Dean of Psychology, Mª Dolores Sancerni; the Dean of Mathematics, Joan Monterde; the Dean of Law, Javier Palao; the Dean of Philosophy and Education Sciences, Rosa Mª Bo; and the Vice-dean of Pharmacy, Hortensia Rico; were present at the event.

The awards for the best academic records of the 2016-2017 academic year can be divided in two academic groups. On the one hand, Rubén Sancho (Faculty of Mathematics) was the honouree in the field of Sciences, Engineering and Architecture. Pablo Martí (Faculty of Pharmacy) was the honouree in Health Sciences. Joaquin Barceló (History of Art) was awarded in the category of Arts and Humanities and Pau Cuquerella (Faculty of Law) in Social and Legal Sciences.

On the other hand, the 1st year undergraduate Awards have been given to Sergio Sancho (Multimedia Engineering) in the category of Sciences, Engineering and Architecture; Paula Iglesias (Faculty of Psychology) in the field of Health Sciences; Néstor Badenes (Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences) in the category of Arts and Humanities and Alicia Rebeca Cabrera (Faculty of Law) in the category of Social and Legal Sciences.

The principal Mª Vicenta Mestre appreciated in her speech the values of the honourees such as their effort, emotional intelligence or their ability to work and improve themselves. “You can return a lot of what you have learned to society because you have had the best possible education to face the challenges of the future,” stated Mestre.

The Secretary of the Foundation Javier Pastor congratulated the honourees and highlighted the role of Carmen Izquierdo, a teacher in the fifties that created this foundation due to her commitment with education and excellency.

The Carmen Izquierdo Besante Monzó Foundation gives every year a €500 award to the best academic records of the first two years of university and the graduated students of the Universitat de València. The Foundation, whose president is the Principal of the Universitat de València, aims to promote education and remove the socioeconomic inequalities among students.
