Maria Emilia Adán is the new president of the Social Council of the Universitat

The full body of the Council of the Valencian Government has named the Dean of the National School of Property, Business and Personal Property Registrars as the new President of the Social Council of the Universitat de València.

The Social Council is the university collegial organism in which the Valencian society can be involved in university matters. It is regulated by Law 2/2003, 28th January, of the Valencian Government and the Social Councils of Valencian State Universities within the legal framework of Organic Law 6/2001 of Universities, the Statutes of the Universitat and its structural and operational regulations.

The duties of the Social Council are comprehensive. They include promoting the relationships between the society and the university, adapting university activities to the necessities of the society and encouraging Valencians to finance the academic institution.

As set out in the regulations, the full body of the Valencian Government is the responsible body of naming the Head of the Social Council. The candidate to the position will be proposed by the Valencian minister that has legal competences in the area of universities. It will be published in the Official Journal of the Valencian Government.

An agreement was reached on 15th February (read the press release of the Valencian Government here) and has been published in the Official Journal of the Valencian Government earlier today (you can read the document here).

As a result of this agreement, Maria Emilia Adán García has been named President of the Social Council of the Universitat de València. She will replace Manuel Broseta Dupré, who had finished his period of services.

The Principal of the Universitat de València, Mª Vicenta Mestre, has congratulated the new president of the Social Council in the name of the institution as well as herself. She has outlined Adán’s career and social importance, and she has showed her gratitude to the former president, Manuel Broseta, “a man tied to the institution and an outstanding professional”.

The new president of the Social Council of the Universitat was born in Sogorb (Castelló) and graduated with honours in Law at the Universitat de València. She also obtained her Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) in law from this institution.

She has been a Property and Commerce Registrar after 1988 exams (oposiciones) and she has worked as a property registrar in Viver (Castelló), Gandia, Manises (València), Sogorb, Nules (Castelló) and the city of València.

Mª Emilia Adán was Director of the Centre of Registrar Studies of the Valencian Region. She was also a member of the Commission of the Foundations Protectorate of the Valencian Region and the Foro por la Justicia del Consejo General de la Abogacía. She was president of the organisation CONVIVENTIA until 2017.

In 2010, she was selected dean of the College of Registrars of the Property, Commerce and Real State of the Valencian Region. She was re-elected in 2014.

She is currently dean of the Colegio Nacional de Registradores de la Propiedad, Mercantiles y Bienes Muebles, position that she has held since she was elected in 2017.
