Master’s degree students

Master’s degree studies are increasingly popular, as it shows the last indicators published in the SIUVP (Information System of Valencian Public Universities) platform, that collects data of the five public universities. According to the last figures incorporated, the number of new master’s degree students get to 8.999 people for the academic year 2014/2015, a 16% more than the previous year and a 30% more than the 6.872 students registered in the academic year 2012/2013.

Master’s degrees remain immune to the loss of students registered in the group of Spanish universities. In fact, in the case of the Valencian public university system, this kinds of students have considerably increased their weight and they already represent the 9.3% of all students in the academic year 2014/2015, if we compare it to the 7.6% of the previous academic year.

Furthermore, this training model is being an incentive for the recruitment of foreign students. The 15.9% of the master’s degree students of the five Valencian public universities is foreign, a much larger proportion than those of foreign students of official degree, that is on a 5.4%.

The internationalisation of Valencian universities is also visible in the evolution of articles with international cooperation, that have increased 10 percentage points in ten years to represent the 46.8% of all articles in 2014.

Precisely, the research and transfer of knowledge is one of the parameters analysed at SIUVP that have obtained remarkable results in the last year included. Data related to doctoral thesis read, the impact of scientific production, I+D obtained funds and registered patents have improved. This last indicator has increased in two years from 9.5 patents for each 1.000 professors, to 13.2 patents in 2014.

The SIUVP platform has just updated 41 of the 60 indicators that it offers, with data referred to the academic year 2014/2015. In particular, this review includes new figures in the sections: Access undergraduate, Students, Academic Performance, Internationalisation, Research and Transfer (indicators related to scientific production, patents, and professors).

SIUVP allows to consult data of a concrete academic year, as well as extract the time evolution of this indicator during the last years. It is also possible to customize the consultation based on the choice of a concrete university or the system in general and, in some indicators, the detail by the branch of teaching or degree.

The collected information based on SIUVP data, resulted from the joint work of Valencian public universities and The Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie), includes from the purely academic aspects, like teaching offer and demand, to the most concrete economic data about resources and results of the activity of each university.

This platform groups together the five Valencian public universities: University of Alacant, Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, Miguel Hernández University of Elche, Universitat Politècnica de València and Universitat de València.
