Mediation, climate change and health, among the topics of the Unisocietat conferences in November

This month, the 12 Unisocietat centres (Alzira, Benetússer, Bétera, Cullera, Gandia, l'Eliana, Massamagrell, Ontinyent, Paterna, Quart de Poblet, Requena and Riba-roja de Túria) are hosting lectures given by experts from the Universitat de València. These lectures, which are free and open to all residents of the different localities and their immediate surroundings, are part of the complementary activities of the Unisocietat academic year implemented in these municipalities.

The cycle of conferences UNISOCIETAT, Autumn 2021, which will continue monthly throughout the current academic year, has been organised by the Vice-principal for Territorial Projection and Society, with the sponsorship of Caixa Popular (in eleven venues) and the Diputació de València. In addition, Caixa Ontinyent (in the capital of the Vall d'Albaida), the Valencian Anti-Fraud Agency and the Institutional Chair of Culture for Mediation of the Universitat de València are also collaborating.

During the month of November, a dozen professors will be taking part, with different topics, from astronomy or social rights, to the Generation of '98 or musical societies. Again, a reflection of the universal knowledge character of the Universitat de València.

The November conference programme starts in Benetússer with astronomy as a backdrop, with Enric Marco Soler (Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics. UV) giving his talk “50 years ago we set foot on the moon. Memories, myths and discoveries”.

Those attending the conference in Massamagrell, on 4th November, will have the opportunity to widen their knowledge in the field of Health with Professor Raquel Faubel (Physiotherapy. UV), who will address the title Ni se vive ni se muere igual: salud pública y determinantes de la salud (Neither one lives nor dies the same: public health and health determinants).

The pandemic and its consequences will be the common topic of the conferences in l'Eliana, Paterna and Riba-roja de Túria. On 9 November, Professor Rosario Serra (Constitutional Law, Political Science and Administration. UV) will focus on Fake News and Covid-19 in l'Eliana. In Paterna, on the 11th, the lecture by Lorenzo Cotino (Constitutional Law, Political Science and Administration. UV) will focus on Transparency, accountability and good governance in Covid-19. In Riba-roja, on the 18th, José Antonio Sobrino (Earth Physics and Thermodynamics. UV) will analyse the Impact of Covid-19 from space.

On the same day, on the 17th, the Quart de Poblet campus will be hosting the lecture Saber hablar, given by Professor Antonio Briz (Spanish Philology. UV), who will define the keys to learning how to communicate and use speech in the most appropriate way according to the moment and the situation.

Is it possible to repair the human brain? is the title of the conference that Professor Mª Isabel Fariña (Cellular Biology, Functional Biology and Physical Anthropology. UV) will give at Unimajors Gandia on 24th November.

History will be the focus of the lectures in Alzira and Massamagrell. On 23rd November, Marc Baldó (Modern and Contemporary History. UV) will be in Alzira with his lecture Republican defeated: from the French refugee camps to Mauthausen-Gusen (1939-1945). In Masamagrell, on the 25th, Francisco Fuster (Modern and Contemporary History. UV) will go back to the first decades of the 20th century to analyse what there was of reality, history and myth in the Generation of '98.

On 25th November, Ontinyent will host Remigi Morant (Teaching of Musical, Plastic and Corporal Expression. UV) who will talk about The importance of Musical Societies in the Valencian Community.

Finally, mediation will be the protagonist of the conferences in Alzira, Requena and Cullera. Mª Sonia Rodríguez de Llamas (Civil Law. UV) will give a talk on "If you can't find a solution, try mediation" on 9th November in Alzira, and on 16th November in Cullera. And the headquarters of Unisocietat in Requena will receive Ana Isabel Blanco (Administrative and Procedural Law. UV) on the 18th, who will talk about the Management of emotions in conflict and mediation as a good tool for dialogue.
