A researcher group led by the Universitat will study the improvement of the sports performance of Spanish female cyclists from different perspectives (biomechanics, physiology, psychology). In addition, this will open a line of industrial research and development, which will work on improving the sports product oriented to the characteristics of women, through the industry of manufacturers of bicycles and accessories to the toy industry. These are some of the investigation lines in cycling and women, the result of the first day of work of the REDICYM (Red Española de Investigación del Rendimiento Deportivo en Ciclismo y Mujer). The project is coordinated by Alberto Encarnación Martínez and Pedro Pérez Soriano, members of the GIBD (Grupo de Investigación en Biomecánica Deportiva) of the Universitat de València and professors of the Department of Physical and Sports Education.

The reunion was held the past 27th September at the Ontinyent Campus of the Universitat de València.  Other of the commitments reached during the day was the structure of the 1st REDICYM Congress for the year 2020, in which the current scientific knowledge on cycling sports performance from a gender perspective will be presented.

Researchers from all the universities that constitute the REDICYM attended this first day:  Jose Ignacio Priego, Cristina Blasco and Inmaculada Aparicio (Universitat de València - Department of Physical and Sports Education and Department of Physiology); Juan Garcia López (University of León); Pablo Floría (Pablo de Olavide University); Gil Serracolí (Polytechnic University of Catalonia); Linda Chung (Catholic University of Murcia); Martin Lewis (University of Derby, United Kingdom); and Diana Ximena Martínez (Institución Universitaria Nacional del Deporte, Colombia); as well as Ventura Ferrer Roca (High Performance centre of Majorca’s Cugat Vallés).

This project is funded by the National Sports Council and has a website which will present the completed work, the features of the Red, its objectives and each member who constitutes it will be presented. (https://www.redicym.es/)
