More than a hundred specialists will debate about human rights in the El Tiempo de los Derechos congress

The Institute of Human Rights and the Universitat de València has organised the tenth edition of El Tiempo de los Derechos Congress that will be celebrated on Thursday, 22 and Friday 23 in the Faculty of Law. More than a hundred researchers from 15 research centres from the Spanish State forming part of this network will assist to the event. Furthermore, the congress coincides with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Institute of Human Rights of the academic institution.

The inaugural conference will be under the charge of the professor Javier de Lucas, who will focus his exhibition in juridical universalism crisis. And in the closure many academics will talk about the genocide that is currently perpetrating over the Palestine population of Gaza.

Among other topics, human rights for migrant people, rights of old people, rights of children, the situation of those defending rights or the problems with transitional justice in relation with the democratic memory. Another of the issues that will be talked is the launch of the II Plan Nacional de Derechos Humanos. Current research projects and doctoral theses developed in the heart of the participant groups will also be discussed.

The congress will be inaugurated by the Vice-Principal for Educational Transformation and Lifelong Learning, Ángeles Solanes; the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Clara Viana Ballester along with the director of the Institute of Human Rights, José García Añón.

The Red Tiempo de los Derechos has its origin in 2008 when 12 research groups got together and obtained a grant from the Programme Consolider-Ingenio 2010: ‘El tiempo de los derechos’ (HURI-AGE). This Programme appeared to promote strategic actions that were capable of marking a turning point and contribute to a quality jump in juridical research in Human Rights. Currently, the Network is composed by 15 groups and centres that develop studies about human rights, research projects, scientific encounters of high level, learning structures or incidence reports. An intense research activity that has permitted to put HURI-AGE as the main Spanish academic reference in the human rights field.

20 years of the Institute of Human Rights Universitat de València

The event coincides with the commemoration of the 20 years from the creation of Institut Universitari de Drets Humans de la Universitat de València,  hoster of the event From March 2005, really important research and formative activities for knowledge and dissertation of human rights problems in our society that show the compromise and concern for the most menaced rights. The task of this research centre has been from the beginning an invitation to think about the battle for justice, in that unfinished task that’s human rights.
