Óscar Barberá, new dean of the School of Education

The professor Óscar Barberá has been chosen by the Faculty of School of Education of the Universitat de València as the new Dean, with 19 votes in favour and 6 blank votes. He replaces the previous dean Manuel Monfort.

The new team’s members are José Ramón Insa, Rosa Giner, Noelia Ibarra, Ana Maria Botella, Begoña Gómez Devís and Vicent Miralles, as secretary.

Óscar Barberá Marco (Valencia, 1960) has been studied at the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the Universitat de València. He obtained the “licenciatura” (former Spanish undergraduate degree) at Biochemistry specialisation in 1983 and received his doctorate in 1987. He has been always compromised professionally with the Universitat de València, from his beginning as research’s grantholder at the Department of Organic Chemistry, until now as professor of the Department of Sciences Teaching. In addition, he has been responsible for teacher’s training and science teachers since 1987.

Among the professional publication stand out international journals as Phytochemistry, Journal of Natural Products, Science Education, The American Biology Teacher or Enseñanza de las Ciencias. Some chapters have also been published by Elsevier Science from Amsterdam, or National Association of Biology Teachers from EEUU.  A Ministry of Education and Science program of spanish researchers stays in research institutions enabled him to be part of it during 1995 of the Centre for Applied Research in Education at the university of East Anglia (Norwich, England), with the professors Barry MacDonald and John Elliott.

Óscar Barberá has been deputy director of Studies (1990-1996), director of the old School of Education at the Universitat de València (2007-2011), and the first dean of his School of Education Faculty (2011-2012). Additionally, he was vice-principal of Studies at the Universitat de València (1998-2002) and substitute counselor of School Council of Spanish State (2004-2008), by college representatives. He has been until now vice-dean of his Faculty with the team of the professor Manuel Monfort.
