Patricia Llopis, former representative of the Training Research staff (PIF) of the Universitat de València and specialist in Procedure Law, has won the 5th edition of Antonio Delgado Award of Author Institute. This award recognized her research work on copyright.

The Author Institute is sponsored by the General Society of Authors (SGAE) and the Ibero-American Observatory for Copyright (ODAI). This award (worth 3,000 €) has been given to Patricia Llopis because of her work on “Protection of intellectual property violated on the Internet.  Competences issues in the Spanish System”.  She conducted the research while she was hired as training research staff at the university.

According to the jury, Llopis analyses the illegal uses of protected benefits. They are carried out in three different abusive manners: streaming, direct download and P2P exchanges. Her work is particularly focused on the competences of Spanish courts to acknowledge this type of offense.

The jury is formed by jurists specialized in copyright such as Pilar Cámara Águila (Secretary-General of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), Antonio López Sánchez (Lawic Abogados associate) and Eduardo de Freitas Straumann (Deputy General Manager of AGADU).

This award was created in 2012. It aims to promote and reward research studies addressing copyright and related rights issues. This award honours the memory and legacy of Antonio Delgado Porras. He was “a master for generations of intellectual property professionals”.  Delgado founded the Author Institute and was one of the main draft bill editors of the current Intellectual Property Law.
