The professor Pere Puigdomènech will participate in the conferences ‘Los grandes retos de la ciencia’ organised by Mètode magazine and the ‘Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives’ on Thursday, the 16th of May at 7p.m. at the ‘Aula Magna’ in the Cultural Centre La Nau of the Universitat de València.

Pere Puigdemènech, professor of research in the Centre of Research in Agrigenómica (CSIC-IRTA-UAB-UB) of Cerdañola will explain the potential that science has to solve the problems that progress entails: how can we extend the life conditions that a part of the planet has accomplished to the rest of the world? And how will we produce the energy and the food to achieve it?

Pere Puigdomènech was the coordinator of the monograph included in the number 100 of the Mètode magazine, a selection of articles that invite to reflect about the role of science in technical, social and ethical terms, in order to face the challenges that the energetic crisis, the climate change or the development of genetics suppose in the medium-long term.

Puigdomènech also takes part by opening the monograph with an article in which he explains the challenges of our time and the role that scientific research will play.

At the end of the conference, at 20:00 hours, the opening of the exhibition "Mètode: 100 números de ciencia" will take place in the Oberta Exhibition Room in La Nau. Both events are free admission with limited capacity.
The activities to celebrate the 100 issues of the magazine Mètode are part of the programme organised by the Cultural Centre La Nau of the Universitat de València on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, also coinciding with the 520th anniversary of the Universitat de València.
The next lecture in the series will be given on 22 May by Gemma Marfany and will focus on the future posed by the development of new genetic publishing technologies.
