PhD Marta Suárez Varela-Maciá has received ex aequo the award AECA to the best PhD in Economy and Business Administration and Management. It is the 2018 edition Real Academia de Doctores de España AECA award. Marta defended her doctoral thesis las January in the Doctoral Programme in Industrial Economics of the University of Valencia and she obtained the highest grade cum laude with international mention. The thesis is titles “Essays in Applied Microeconomics on Water Resources Management” and it was directed by professors of the Department of Economic Structure Andrés J. Picazo and Juan A. Máñez.
The doctoral thesis tackles a number of issues related to the management of water resources and the supply of the urban service in Spain. In the first place, the effect and adequacy of certain pricing policies oriented towards the promotion of efficient use of water. Secondly, it studies the influence of environmental, political and economic factors in the fixation of water prices and the governance in the service supplies. Finally, it tackles the problematic related to the assessment and the improvement in the efficiency of the urban service management of water. The conclusions reached by the thesis and its implications in public politics aim to be interesting in a great variety of environments and institutional contexts.
