The presentation of the book ‘Cuatro vientos en contra: el porvenir económico de España’ (Four headwinds: the economic future of Spain) will take place on Wednesday 4th October at 19:00 in the Paranymph of the Cultural Centre La Nau. It is written by the economist and the full university professor of the Faculty of Economics Jordi Palafox and the prologue is written by Josep Fontana.

Palafox will present his new essay and open the floor for discussion with the participants about the current situation and the future consequences of the national economy. Moreover, Antonio Ariño, Vice-Principal for Culture and Equity of the Universitat de València; Matilde Mas, full-university professor of economic analysis of the Universitat de València and director of international projects of Ivie; and Carlos Sebastián, full university professor of economics, will take part in the debate.

The entrance is free but there is a limited number of places. The event is organised by different institutions such as the UV General Foundation, the Valencian Office of Language, Caixa Popular and Escola Europea d’Humanitats.

Jordi Palafox was Doctor in Economics and Full university professor of History and Academic Institutions in the Universidad de Valencia until his early retirement in August 2014. He was researcher at the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie) from 1990 to 1998 and member of the Editorial Board of ‘Revista de Historia Económica’. He has written some books about the economic history of Spain during the 20th Century, among which ‘España 1808-1996: el desafío de la modernidad’ (Spain 1808-1996: the modernity challenge), which was written together with Juan Pablo Fusi, is the most popular one. Furthermore, he has given workshops and conferences in international and Spanish universities (Carlos III, Pompeu Fabra, U.C. Berkeley, Tufts-Harvard, U.C. La Jolla, etc.) and published several research articles on the history of economics in specialised magazines.
