Presentation of the mural dedicated to Dolors Corella Piquer

The mural, which belongs to the Mujeres de Ciencia (Women of Science) project, is located in the Joanot Martorell Secondary School in València and is part of the fifteen murals that pay tribute and make women researchers visible through artistic interventions distributed in different locations.

The presentation of the mural dedicated to Dr. Dolors Corella Piquer took place today. It is located in the Joanot Martorell Secondary School (Ciudad del aprendiz, 2 St.) in València and belongs to the Mujeres de Ciencia project.

Mujeres de Ciencia is an initiative promoted by the Universitat Politècnica de València and Las Naves innovation centre, with the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. The project’s main purpose is making women researchers visible and paying them tribute in an innovative and permanent way through artistic interventions distributed in different locations.

Women such as Margarita Salas, Anna Lluch, Valentina Tereshkova, Rosalind Franklin, Jane Jacobs, Katherine Johnson, Josefina Castellví, Hedy Lamarr, Hipatia de Alejandría, María Blasco, Concepción Aleixandre, Jane Goodall, Ada Lovelace and Marie Curie already have a mural. Now, Dolors Corella’s tribute will be included in the collection.


Dolors *Corella: born in Castelló de la Plana, she graduated in Pharmacy (Universitat de València) with an Extraordinary Prize of Degree and also received an Extraordinary Prize for her PhD. She was pioneer in Spain for the integration of genomics into epidemiological research, founding, in 1988, the first Molecular Genetic Epidemiology Research Unit at the Universitat de València. Furthermore, Corella is director of the group Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBEROBN) and full university professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the Universitat de València.

The presentation ceremony has been attended by the principal of the Universitat Politècnica de València, Francisco José Mora; the principal of the Universitat de València, M. Vicenta Mestre; the councillor for Innovation and Knowledge Management from the City Council of València, Carlos Galiana; the director of Las Naves innovation centre, Marta *Chillarón; Joanot Martorell Secondary School’s principal, *Águeda Valle; the project’s commissioners, Joan Peiró & Juan Canales; the work’s artist, *Lluisa Penella; and of the guest of honour, full university professor at the Universitat de València, Dolors *Corella.
