The principal Esteban Morcillo and the vice president Mónica Oltra will open the academic year at La Nau Gran today Thursday

The principal Universitat de València, Esteban Morcillo, and the vice president of the Council, Mónica Oltra will open the academic year 2016-2017 at La Nau Gran today Thursday 6 October. The event will start at 18:30 at the Joan Plaça Auditorium of the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia. Mónica Oltra will give the opening conference entitled «Viure millor, per a viure més» (Live better, to live more). This year there are 1.584 enrolled students.

Mónica Oltra is, as well as the vice president and spokesperson of the Council, the provincial counselor for Equality and Inclusive Policies of the Valencian Government.

La Nau Gran is the training programme for people of the Universitat de València, born in 1999 and that have kept their continuous growth with thousands of people involved. That adventure, which started with 70 people, has meant an open path of intergenerational exchange, that reaches all the knowledge areas while it deals with the social need of having a training throughout life. Life experience and an open curiosity are combined with active and creative activities, that are reflected in society afterwards.

It is organized by the university Extension Service, which depends on the Vice-principal for Training Policies and Educational Quality, directed by Ramón López and it is carried out in cooperation with different centres, services and institutes of the Universitat de València.

It has over 17 years of experience and it includes eleven different training courses, of three mandatory courses and one cross-cutting course called Nau Gran Nivell Avançat. In the academic year 2016-2017 there are 1.484 enrolled students, of which 500 are of new entrants.

Furthermore, there is a wide offer of courses in the so called «Nau Gran en Obert». Courses ranging from the classic workshops about short stories, Cinefòrum or Gastronomy to language courses (English, French, Italian...) and trips of the Club de Geógrafos y Caminantes (Geography and Walkers’ Club) and monographic exhibitions about ethics, communication or physics. The registration for these activities started on Monday 3 of October and it will remain open until all vacancies are filled.

The only requirement for the access to the programme is being 55 years old or more. Curiosity and the desire to learn and participate are taken for granted.
