La Càtedra Microsoft sobre Privacitat i Transformació Digital a la Universitat de València presenta el debat de la Universitat Espanyola sobre aplicació del RGPD en la investigació universitària “amb dades”

The Spanish University debates the application of the RGPD in university research "with data" on 9 May at 9 am in the Assembly Hall of the Gregorio Maians Library (Tarongers Campus).

Experts from Spanish universities and the private sector will take part in the Conference on Data Protection on 9 May. More than 120 attendees from 30 universities have registered for the conference.

The Privacy and Digital Transformation Chair Microsoft at the Universitat de València is organising the Conference ‘Investigación universitaria y cumplimiento normativo del RGPD’, which will be held on Thursday 9 May in the Gregori Mayans Library Auditorium at the UV Tarongers Campus.  The ultimate objective of the activity is to determine the needs of university research in order to construct a functional management model that guarantees data protection.

The opening ceremony will be given by Francisco Javier Palao, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Joaquín Aldás-Manzano, Office of the Vice-Principal for Strategy, Quality and Information Technologies at the Universitat de València and Gabriel López Serrano, Director of Regulatory Affairs for Microsoft Ibérica, followed by a presentation of the objectives of the conference by Ricard Martínez, Director of the Privacy and Digital Transformation Chair Microsoft at the Universitat de València.

The conference will examine the needs of researchers, project managers and those responsible for information and communications technologies and security. Ethical aspects and the public reputational impact of personal data protection issues in the media will also be addressed. The session will give a space to the relations between industry and university research with special consideration to the guarantees of the fundamental right to data protection in research. The conference will end by evaluating the impact of the General Data Protection Regulations and Organic Law 3/2018, of 5 December, on the Protection of Personal Data and the guarantee of digital rights.

"We want to offer attendees a similar dialogue scenario to that which would occur in a design process of a research project that applies the principle of data protection from the design and by default and ensures an investigation based on the respect and guarantee of fundamental rights of individuals," says Martinez. The conference will serve to share and get to know the real needs of all academic and management spheres in order to correctly apply the RGPD to research.

The quality of the speakers, researchers, managers and renowned experts, and the presence of 120 professionals from 30 different universities, hospitals, foundations and research centres ensures a highly productive quality debate. The Privacy and Digital Transformation Chair Microsoft at the Universitat de València thus contributes to the effort of the Institutional Chairs programme of the Universitat de València (uvcàtedres) promoting knowledge of Spanish universities and society in its areas of action.
