Professor José Viña awarded with the Onda Cero Valencia due to his research work

José Viña, full Physiology professor in the Universitat de València, will be awarded with the Onda Cero Valencia Annual Award in Science category. The radio station has announced it after the jury’s decision in the 18th edition. The annual awards appreciate the task of Valencian personalities and entities.

In the other categories, Fartons Polo has won in Business category; la Habitación Roja in Art and Culture; AMALTEA care centre in Solidarity; the Trinquet de Pelaio in Sport; and the honour award has been given to the Valencia CF due to its centenary. The celebration will be held in Espai Rambleta on the 22th of November at 8 PM.

Dr Viña has been keen on researches into aging and free radicals, aging diseases as Alzheimer, metabolic disorders during aging and the associated fragility. He is now investigating specific genes that hundred-year-old people express and its control through diet and sport. He also heads the Metabolism and Organic Damage, Aging and Aging Diseases Research group in the INCLIVA Health Research Institute.

Professor Viña has been appointed honorary doctor by the Université de Rennes 2 in France, as well as by the Universidad Argentina de Buenos Aires. He also got the Albert Struyvenberg Medal in May.
