The book “La regeneración neuronal” was published in the National Geographic’s collection “Los desafíos de la ciencia” and was written by Juan Nácher, a researcher of the Universitat de València. He explains the research on plasticity, the regeneration of the nervous system and the last scientific progress that is able to treat diseases such as spinal injuries or depression.

Juan Nácher is a member of the Research group in Psychiatry and Neurodegenerative Diseases of INCLIVA and the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Salud Mental (CIBERSAM). He indicates that the treatments to nervous system diseases are improving. “Neuroscience is starting to create strategies to regenerate damaged nerves, recover lost neurons and reorganise the neuronal connexions altered by neurological and psychiatric diseases” he indicates.

The publication shows that a large amount of the current therapeutic strategies are based in stimulating the intrinsic plasticity of the nervous system and its capacity of reorganization in order to adapt to different circumstances, even during adulthood. In addition, the professor of the Universitat de València explores the future of neuroscience.

The book La regeneración neuronal explains in a simple manner how the brain works and addresses the researches that are being carried out to treat diseases such as spinal injuries or depression. “There is not much information available covering these topics, but there is people interested in it” assures Juan Nácher.
