The Principal, Esteban Morcillo, with part of their staff, office of the dean’s representatives, representatives of the Equality Unit, Teaching Staff, students, Administrative and service staff and union trades have come together at 12 at the gates of the Office of the Principal of the UV in order to commemorate the Women’s Day. Students of the Faculty of Nursing have also attended with their own banner. Other University areas such as the historic building of La Nau or the terrace of the Faculty of Social Sciences have hosted protest meetings in which mottos in favour of equality have been claimed.

At the Faculty of Social Sciences, students, Teaching Staff and Administrative and service staff of Social Work have also joined the international stop called against discrimination and gender violence. The stop has been from 12:00 to 13:00 in this terrace. The motto of the stop is ‘La solidaridad es nuestra arma’ (Solidarity is our weapon).

The full university professor of Financial Economics, Paz Jordán, will be the person in charge of dynamiting the Equality Day that has been held at the Faculty of Economics this 8 March at 10:00h.  In the evening, the theatre company Komos performs Antigona at Sala Matilde Salvador on 8 and 9 March (19:30).

The researcher woman, main figure at Burjassot-Paterna

The Institute for Molecular Science (ICMol) and the Equality Unit of the Universitat de València, in collaboration with the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC-UV/CSIC), celebrate today, 8 March, the International Day of Researcher Woman.  Apart from stimulating the scientific vocation among women, the initiative tries to help to mend the imbalances of the equality chiefly in the highest levels of the research career.

The conference is composed of five informative talks by Spanish and foreign female researchers in different stages of their professional career. To conclude the programming, there will be also a round table about different initiatives for the promotion of the research and having the students access to the teaching.
María González Béjar, researcher “Ramón y Cajal” at the ICMol, will show the current situation of the researcher career from a gender perspective. Alicia Forment, researcher Doctor of ICMol; Arantza Oyanguren Campos, research Doctor at IFIC; the full university professor of Organic Chemistry, Julia Pérez Prieto (ICMol); and Esther Escolano, researcher and adjunct professor of INTRAS of the UV / Director of the Internal Oversight Service), will offer their comments about their research career.  Apart from them, the French chemist Nathalie Guihéry, from the Laboratoire de Chimie et Physique Quantiques (LCPQ) de la Université Paul Sabatier, will join this series of conferences.

The participants of the round table will be Pilar Campins, vice-principal of Research and Scientific Politics; Pau Serrano, from the Equality Unit; Eugenio Coronado, director of the ICMol; and Juan José Hernández Rey, director of IFIC and the speakers of the conference.

The Researcher Women Day, that will be open by the vice-principal of Research and Scientific Politics, Pilar Campins, will take place next Wednesday 8 March, from 09:00 to 14:00h at the Salón de Actos of the Cabecera Building of the Scientific Park of the Universitat de València.

Medal to Celia Amorós

On Friday 10 March, at 10:30h, the Faculty of Psychology holds a conference about the pioneer women in the Psychology discipline given by Silvia García Dauder. She did doctorate in Psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid. Nowadays, she is professor in the Social Psychology area at Rey Juan Carlos University. She has also collaborates with some research projects about Science, Technology and Gender, especially about the biomedical and psycholochical regulation of the sexed body.  

The presentation of the University of Valencia’s Medal will take place at 13:00h at the Paranimf of the Universitat de València. Graduate and Doctor in Philosophy in the Universitat de València, she is the maximum referent in the feminism for the equality. Full university professor and member of the Department of Philosophy and Moral and Political Philosophy of the UNED, has received the National Essay Prize (2006). This will be followed by the presentation of a painting at Paranimf, in this case, the first painting with a female representative with the incorporation of the professor Olimpia Arozena Torres.

Series of films

Despite the fact that some activities have been carried out during February, the programming “Marzo por la igualdad” (‘March for Equality’) starts this month with the film ‘The Miracle Worker’ (Arthur Penn, 1962) within the series: “Las mujeres en la docencia”. The film has been presented by the historian Dolores Sánchez Durà at the Palau de Cerveró. The series is composed by: Music of the Heart (Wes Craven, 1999, 105’) on Thursday 23 March and Not One Less (Yi ge dou bu neng shao, Zhang Yimou, 1999, 106’) on Thursday 30 March. 

The second series of films “Escriptores, inconformistes, incompreses” (‘Female, non-conformists, misunderstood writers’) will take place on Tuesday 7 March at 18:00h in the Principal Peset Hall of Residence with the performance of the following fims: Brontë Sisters (Las soeurs Brontë, André Téchiné, 1979, 115’) and it will be hosted by Begonya Pozo, vice-dean of the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication. The series is composed by these films: I, The Worst of All (María Luisa Bemberg, 1990, 105’) that will be shown on 21 March and Papusza (Joanna Kos-Krauze, Krzysztof Krauze, 2013, 125’) that will be shown on 28 March.

'Women in a world of men'

The Faculty of Social Sciences hosts on 14 March from 15:30 to 19:30h the 3th Equality Day in the associations with “Women in world of men” that is focused on the horizontal segregation and suggests taking a look on the masculinised sectors such as the women to the Local Police, to the Photojournalism, as war correspondents, in the car industry, the motor world or in the harbour.

The events of March for Equality continue from 22 March with a conference by the psychologist and sexologist Clara Yuste: “Descolonizar la mirada desde una perspectiva feminista, dialógica y transnacional. Disidencias-convergencias-resistencias”.  It will take place at 18:30h in the Salón de Actos of the Faculty of Social Sciences. And, at 19:30h, the chorus of women “A cau d’orella” will perform a concert at the Capilla de la Sapiència.

Miguel Lorente, director of the Equality Unit of the University of Granada, professor of the Legal and Forensic Medicine and ex delegate of the government against the gender violence will join us in a talk about the sexual harassment in universities on Thursday 23 March at 18:00h.

The Principal Peset Hall of Residence hosts on Friday 24 March a conference about the analysis of the administration of justice in a generic view.

‘Women to the war, the most forgotten victims’ is the title of the round table that will take place on 30 March at Aula Magna of the Cultural Centre La Nau with the collaboration of professors Raquel Vanyó and Carmen Miguel. This is a ceremony in collaboration with Doctors without borders and is part of a campaign that tries to raise awareness about the current situation in Siria.

The week is organised in accordance with the Equality Plan that is focused on promoting favourable conditions for the participation of the university community in matters of equality; and indicates the annual celebration of a week in favour of the equality that comes to the setbacks between women and men and values the progresses achieved.

March for Equality is composed of several activities suggested by teachers, students, centres, unions, organisations, associations... that, due to the volume, are carried out between February and April.
