The Universitat de València has resolved the Aid programme to elite, high-ranking and high level athletes that will benefit 196 students. 118 women y 78 men. The programme, endowed with EUR 50,000, received a total of 219 requests, and its objective is to develop a supporting programme to these athletes so that they can alternate sport activity and academic studies.

These 196 students will take part of the programme until December 2018. For a year, they will benefit from an academic-sports assistance, consisting of the support of an academic tutor who, from their centre, will ensure that the student's athletic and academic careers are compatible; free access to the services of the Sports Support Office of the Physical Education and Sports Service of the Universitat de València; free registration in those activities and / or sports schools that may influence the improvement of the student's athletic performance; and 1.5 ECTS credits.

Students who have gained access to the elite, high-ranking and high level programme of the University practice up to 34 different sports disciplines, some of which also include the male and female categories, and adapted sports. These are martial arts (kick boxing, karate, judo…,) team sports, (football, indoor football, rugby, basketball, handball, volleyball...,) individual (equestrianism, cycling, sport fishing, shooting, archery, orientation, fencing, swimming...,) racquets sports (paddle tennis, table tennis, frontenis,) athletics, different varieties of gymnastics, water sports (sailing, rowing, triathlon...,) wrestling and boxing, or pilota valenciana, among others.

This programme is called every year by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Studies and Language Policy Last academic year, 108 men and 110 women took part in the programme, of which three of them participated in Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, 17 were high level, 54 were called by the corresponding national team, 90 obtained results in the university championships of Spain, 46 participated in international university championships and 114 were proclaimed elite athletes of the Valencian Community.
