Twenty-nine collections published by Spanish public and private scientific and university publishers including the ‘Aldea Global’ and ‘Desarrollo Territorial’ collections, which are edited by the Publications Service of the Universitat de València, have obtained the Quality Seal in Academic Publishing Quality (CEA-APQ) in the first call.

This is an honour that actually implies a scientific and editorial quality since they have met the informative quality, editorial policies, editorial processes, reputation and prestige requirements. This distinction will be endured for three years.

The ‘Desarrollo Territorial’ collection (http://puv.uv.es/desarrollo-territorial.html) is run by the full university professor of Geography of the Universitat de València Joan Romero and it was created in 2006. Since then it has become a national benchmark in the wide field of the researches about territorial governance and public policies with a significant territorial impact and local development. It allows the Excellency in these fields for all the research groups present in Spain as well as translations of works and authors from other countries that are considered relevant. With a strong interdisciplinary vocation, its contribution in the mentioned areas of research is considered capital and it is addressed to research groups from different areas (Geography, Economy, Social Policies, Law, and Architecture), public officials, young researchers, teaching staff from these areas and undergraduate and graduate students. It is also addressed to citizens, not necessarily experts, who are curious about territorial dynamics and processes. The collection, which already has 19 titles, is placed in the first places of reference in its area which will undoubtedly increase the academic recognition of the work and its authors.

‘Aldea Global’(http://www.uv.es/alglobal/), the other collection distinguished with the achievement of the Seal of Quality is a collection of the publishers of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat Jaume I (Castelló), the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) and the Universitat de València. It publishes works about communication and communication technologies in Spanish and Catalan with a broad multidisciplinary approach that includes journalism, audiovisual communication, publicity, public relations and documentation and other disciplines of the social sciences and humanities closely related to the social communication.

The collection, thanks to its trajectory and management model, is a benchmark as a consolidated initiative among university publishers. It also has a Board of Directors composed by two members, academics and technicians, from each of the co-editor universities. On the part of the Universitat de València, the direction is in the hands of the professor of Journalism and Communication Josep Lluís Gómez Mompart and the editor of the PUV Maite Simón.

Born in 1997, the collection has a consolidated track record of 20 years and a catalogue of 36 titles. Communication books with formal and content quality are published in both paper and digital format. They understand the communication in a modern sense which is corresponded to the areas of knowledge of Audiovisual Communication, Journalism and Advertising and Public Relations in the Spanish State (and by extension in Latin America).

The academic projection is more than remarkable, not only in the natural territory of the co-editor universities but in all the Spanish and in Latin American scope.

The collection, designed and managed with a high academic rigor, provides its authors with a valuable platform for their research projection. The topics, contents’ quality and editorial cure of the works contributes to the impact of the collection among academic researchers and communication professionals. The fact of being co-published collections multiplies its impact among the university communities of the co-published entities and its external dissemination. Recognised research, monographs, essays, collective books, reference works, translations... can be included in the collection if the original copies are adjusted to the required approaches and exceed the mandatory reports.

The variety of titles of the collection which belong to all the academic fields ease the its diverse potential public. It is especially addressed to the university spectrum (researchers, professors and students) but it is also especially attractive for communicators, disseminators, advertisers and, ultimately, professionals in the field of communication, culture and business. The availability of paper editions and electronic support facilitates the approach to different readers and enables it to reach anywhere in the world with a single click. Thanks to the variety of topics, this option also brings the collection, at least some of its titles, closer to any type of interested reader, not only to the professional or the academic ones.

Seven of the collections have also obtained a special mention of internationality, which highlights the presence of foreign authors. The twenty-nine collections that have successfully passed the evaluation process will maintain the seal and, therefore, the recognition of their scientific and editorial quality for a period of three years counting since the final resolution of the call, held on July 27, 2017.

Innovating initiative in Europe
The Quality Seal in Academic Publishing Quality (CEA-APQ) is an innovating initiative in Europe. It is promoted by the Spanish University Publishers' Association (UNE) and supported by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain (ANECA) and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). Its objective is to recognise the best practices within the Spanish university editing and to become a distinctive sign for both the evaluation agencies of the research work and the academic and scientific community. It also expects to be a procedure to promote and encourage the academic editing.

The UNE works on this project for five years and collaborates with the ANECA and FECYT since 2014. The current president of the UNE, Ana Isabel González, is responsible of coordinating the works of both institutions as well as the ones from the research groups that have participated in the seal creation: ‘@E-lectra’ (University of Salamanca), ‘EC3 Evaluación de la Ciencia y la Comunicación Científica’ (University of Granada) and ‘ÍLIA’ (CSIC).
