Ramón Ferrer, retired professor of the Universitat de València, will lead the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua (Valencian Language Academy) for five more years, since he has obtained the absolute majority of the votes of the academicians in the Plenary Session celebrated this morning in San Miguel de los Reyes monastery. The other candidate and vice-president until now, Josep Palomero, has received seven votes, and other two academicians have put a blank vote.

The rest of the Governing Board has been formed by Joan Rafael Ramos (vice-president), Veronica Cantó (secretary), Immaculada Cerdà and Honorado Ros (chairs).

The re-elected president of the policymaking institution has committed to promote institutional relationships with the objective of giving the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua more visibility to increase the image “of stability, credibility, confidence, prestige and transparency created with many efforts in the last five years”. In particular, Ferrer has spoken of the relationships with the Valencian Government, the universities, the Inter-university Institute for Valencian Language Studies, the education sector, the publishing sector and those collectives and organisations that are supportive with the promotion of the Valencian language.

Likewise, Ramón Ferrer has shown his intention of bridging gaps with dialogue in the consolidation of the relationships with the Institut d’Estudis Catalans (Catalan Studies Institute) and other cultural organisations in the linguistic sector, “an agreement that allows a regulation that respects diversity, which will reinforce the role of the AVL as a Valencian referent and will consolidate its prestige”. Ferrer has also spoken of the “meritorious steps” that have been taken in the relationship with the Real Academia de Cultura Valenciana (Academy for Valencian Culture) and has said that “it is necessary to keep working so they can feel as representors within the framework established by the Acadèmia”.

Finally, the president of the AVL has expressed the need of optimising better the resources of the institution, elaborating an action plan with realistic previsions, progressing in the consolidation of academic works and improving the dissemination of the activities promoted by the Acadèmia. Ferrer has also defended the incorporation of reputable people to the institution and the correction of the difference between the number of men and women, with a firm intent to achieve equality.
