On Thursday (19:00), Rector Peset Hall of Residence inaugurates the photo exhibition ‘L’última defensa. La memòria oblidada’, by José Aleixandre. The exhibition will take place at the Muralla Hall and will show some of the constructions built by the Linea de Defensa Inmediata. This has all been the result of a rigorous research work carried out by the photojournalist José Aleixandre.

The exhibition combines aesthetic approach and heritage interest by trying to make visible a part of our forgotten patrimony, recover its significance in the understanding of our closest history and make Valencian society aware of it so that they can understand specific aspects of the struggle. This way, it will be possible to defend the conservation and patrimonial value of the existing remainders.

The construction of the Linea de Defensa Inmediata (Line of Immediate Defence) began the 22nd of July 1938. It was requested by the government, run by Sebastián Carrer Vilaseca and finished on the 29th of March 1939, once the Spanish Civil War was over.

It has a length of 26 kilometres and runs through El Puig, Rafelbunyol, Náquera, Bétera, Moncada, San Antonio de Benagéber, Paterna, La Eliana and Riba-roja.

Nowadays, it can be considered as the best preserved line of defence in our region and has an educational potential to get to know these defensive rear constructions built with limited resources. Thus, it help us understand a new dimension of the severity of the civil war.
