Remote sensing and the impact of global change and big data will be some of the topics of the XVIII TIG Congress

The XVIII Congress of Technologies of the Geographic Information will speak about five different topics that are the next ones: remote sensing and the techniques of Earth observation in the 21st centuty. In addition, the information and technologies for the diagnosis and management of cities also the evaluation and impact of the global change and finally the use of big data and geo-referenced statistical information in territorial planning and TIG working. This congress is going to be in University–Business Foundation of the University of Valencia. It is presided by Mª José López García, professor of Physical Geography of the Department of Geography of the Universitat de València.

The Technologies of the Geographical Information GROUP (TIG) of the Association of Spanish Geographers (AGE) and the Department of Geography of the Universitat de València with the Geographic School collaboration has organised this congress that will last from tomorrow morning until 22th of july. It tries to become the place where institutions, companies and the scientific staff speak about the advances in the field of observation, access and analysis of geographic information.

It is important to say that there are some practical workshops prepared. They will deal about different topics as the image processing Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3 or the updating of land occupation databases through object-based techniques. They will explain how works the Observatori Ciutadà de l’Horta, the virtual platforms for the didactic of geography in schools and the new commercial software like ArcGIS or ESRI and the free ones as gvSIG or Miramon.

The event will have some professionals as Giancarlo Filipazzo who is coordinator of the Copernicus Programme of the European Space Agency (ESA), Paul Longley who is professor of the Geography Department in the University College London, Noelia Pérez and Francisco Sánchez who work in the Geographic National Institute (IGN), etc. All of them will be the protagonists of the conference of this congress.
