The conclusions of this research projects are presented within the framework of Civil Society and development, NGOs and migrant associations in cooperation. In word of Joan Lacomba, the project’s main aim is to “make visible the links between NGOS and migrant associations as main actors from cooperation to development and the attention to migrant people in our country, as well as to analyse the changes that the core of these organisations have undergone”. Along with him, the other people that have taken part in the project Isabel Royo (UV), Massimo Alessandra (UV), María José Barbé (UV), Isolda Perelló (UV), Carolina Tovar (UV), Alexis Cloquell (UCV), Mourad Aboussi (UGR) and Jesús Sanz (UCM).

A representative sample of more than 2,000 DNGOs registered in the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), made up of 332 entities throughout the country, were surveyed in the project. Among the DNGOs, a 36% had collaborated with different immigrant associations, a 47% of which stated that collaborations were formal and continuous mainly during 2012 and 2015 (48% of the cases) and started at the request of both parts (52& of cases).

Collaborations between DNOGs, just over a third of them, and immigrant associations took shape in association’s participation in DNOGs activities (13%), collaboration in projects (12%), DNOGs participation in association’s activities (12%), and organising activities together (11%). Thus, DNOGs provided the associations (9&) with technical and training support, and transferred them spaces and supported the associations to create them for a lesser extent. 61% of DNGOs made a positive assessment of the collaborations and 37% of them, a very positive one. Moreover, 59% of DNGOs said that they took part in forums, platforms or networks in which immigrant associations are also involved. In the survey, the presence of foreign people in the DNOGs was asked as well, to which 70% of entities replied in the affirmative stating that these people work as volunteer (41% of cases) in the DNGOs but also as technic staff (21%) or as members of the managing board (17%).

Joan Lacomba is a professor in the Department of Social Work in the Universitat de València and doctor in Sociology. His researches have focused on migration and its links to development, diaspora and migrant associations role. Lacomba has published some books and articles on these fields and has directed two projects of R+D+I.

 The Human Rights Institute of the Universitat de València (IDH-UV) has started a wide activity programme in 2018 coinciding with the 70^th anniversary of the Human Rights Declaration. The IDH-UV was founded in 2005 and is part of the Consolider project, in which 12 research groups of different Spanish universities take part. It is coordinated by Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Institute of the Carlos III University of Madrid.
