The research unit of Economics of Culture of the Universitat de Valencia (Econcult) has launched a call to favour the internationalization of Valencian culture through training, mobility and funding of initiatives. Directed by Professor Pau Rausell, Econcult is a research group of the Inter-university Institute for Local Development (IIDL).

The project of the call, titles Interreg MED CHEBEC, initiated a support programme integrated by companies and professionals which is developing competences and international contacts. The project is thirty months longs and it has a two million euro budget. Econcult has identified a series of actions and proposals which specifically favour the processes of internationalization of the cultural and creative sectors. Other factors which entail limitations, such as the poor language skills or the few international proposals have also been taken into account.

Raúl Abeledo, coordinator of European projects of Econcult and main researcher of the project, explains that CHEBEC is inspired by the fastest vessels of the 18th century used by merchants, but also by those of pirates and privateers to explore, exchange, connect and revitalise the economy of the Mediterranean. “The prevailing globalisation forces us to leave our comfort zone. Internationalisation is a challenge which is especially complex for the cultural sector given the limitations of the programmes of institutional support and the difficulties of accessing the necessary funding. However, it is also an opportunity to find and develop new markets and find new audiences. Artistic mobility has always been a source of training, research and innovation, which are the main requirements for competitive and survival of the cultural agents of today”.

The call for Econcult is presented as a public congress in the Convent Carme (Plaça Portal Nou 6), on Thursday November 22 from 9:30 to 1:30pm.
