The researcher, José Viña and Pilar de la Oliva, TSJ’s president awarded with the University Society Award

The teacher and researcher José Viña and the presidency of the Superior Court of Justice, Pilar de la Oliva, are some of the winners in the XXIII edition of the University-Society Awards granted by the Social Council of the University of Valencia and will be delivered soon.

José Viña, who is PhD and professor of Physiology at the Universitat de València, has been the researcher awarded in the Research and Development category, for his R&D collaboration project with the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS). Viña is also Doctor honoris causa by the Université de Rennes 2 in France and by the Argentine University of Buenos Aires. He has published around 250 international works and is the author of the book 'Cuídese hoy para que no le cuidemos mañana: cómo vivir para envejecer mejor' (2009).

Pilar de la Oliva is the professional awarded in the Alumni Plus-Alumni modality of the Universitat de València. This award recognizes the professional career and highlights the professional, academic and business excellence of former students of the Universitat de València with a proven track record.

Pilar de la Oliva is president of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community since 2010. She is graduated in law from the Universitat de València and she entered the judicial career in 1982. She is currently the only woman in charge of a Superior Court of Justice and the second in the history of Spain.

The Trajectory of Collaboration University-Society modality has gone to the Editorial Tirant lo Blanch for its long history of collaboration with the Universitat de València and its professors. Tirant lo Blanch, with headquarters in Valencia and branches in Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Colombia, is a reference in the legal and humanities edition in Spain and Mexico in its two editorial lines: Tirant lo Blanch and Tirant Humanidades. Since 2014, the Higher Center for Scientific Research (CSIC) has considered Tirant lo Blanch the best legal publisher in Spain.

The Institutional and Business Chairs of the Universitat de València prize went to the Würth EMC Chair, the first International Chair of the Universitat de València, in operation since 2015, and which constitutes a wide-ranging collaboration between the company Würth Elektronik eiSos and the University.

The modality aimed at recognizing the actions of improvement and innovation in the University Management and the good administrative practices of the Administration and Services Personnel of the Universitat de València has recognized, in this edition of the awards, the Unitat de Cultura Científica i de la Innovation from the University of Valencia. Created in 2002 as a unique initiative within the European university scene, it carries out, among other activities, public dissemination of science and its mission is to make society comprehensible the value of scientific knowledge with the aim of increasing scientific culture among citizens and his interest in science, technology and innovation.

The Alumni Plus modality is aimed at recognizing the contribution of ideas and innovative projects of the student collective of the University of Valencia in the field of university-society collaboration. In the XIII edition of these awards, the winners in this category are: Sonia Jiménez Hortelano, PhD student, History of Art; Samuel López Carril, PhD student, Physical Activity and Sports Science; Francisco Crespo Hernández, student of the Degree in Psychology. In addition, the jury has awarded the Excellent Student Award of the University of Valencia, endowed with one thousand euros, to Daniel Pérez Casero, a double degree student of Law and Political Science.

Finally, the awards for Teaching Excellence, aimed at recognizing the teaching work of the Universitat de València faculty, have fallen this year to Laura Ballester Miquel, from the Departament d'Economia Financera i Actuarial; Francisco Grimaldo Moreno, from the Department of Computer Science; Eva López Terrada, from the Departament de Dret del Treball i de la Seguretat Social; Ana Isabel Lloret Alcañiz, of the Departament de Fisiologia; and Alexandra Valencia Peris, from the Didactics Department of the Musical, Plastic and Body Express.
