The University Senate is the highest representative body of the academic institution. This event takes place every four years and includes the renovation of the students, teaching staff and Administrative staff’s representatives.

Now, 300 members will be renewed: 153 members of the doctor Teaching and Research Staff with permanent association to the Universitat de València; 38 non doctor Teaching Staff members or without permanent association; 75 members chosen by the students; 30 members chosen by the administrative and service staff and four members chosen by the trainee research staff.

The University Senate is renewed partially every two years to choose the 75 representatives of the student body. But every four years (this year) those representatives for the other units of the university community will also be renewed.

This University Senate, once it is renewed, will approve the election’s process for the Office of the Principal, which will probably take place in the first months of 2018.

The competences of the University Senate are very varied. From defending the personality and the principles of the Universitat de València established in the Statutes to elaborating the Statutes and its modifications. The highest representative body is also responsible for approving and amending the regulations of the Universitat de València; to establish the general criteria that the Council of Government has to keep in mind to issue a report on the creation, modification and elimination of faculties, schools and university institutes of research of the Universitat de València; and to discuss and approve the general objectives of the university policy that the Principal must present in the second quarter of each calendar year.
