Roser Almenar Rodríguez, a Law graduate of the University of Valencia (UV) and International Law Master’s degree of the Complutense University of Madrid, is the winner of the Cañada Blanch Foundation Award –University of Valencia. With this €7,000 worth prize, the foundation offers the winner the opportunity to stay at the London School of Economics (LSE) for three months to carry out a research project.

The aim of her research project is to determine if in Public International Law, individuals are entitled to receive protection of data that could result in unwanted images taken by space satellites.     To this end, it is intended to be integrated in the framework of the activities carried out by the research group ‘LSE IDEAS Space Policy Project’, led by Dr. Dimitrios Stroikos, which examines current space issues in their legal and political aspects and hosts public lectures and events at the LSE.

The deductive nature of the study should be also pointed out, which will analyse the right to protection of data from the fundamental rights’ perspective, as well as the objectivity of the selected method, based on a review of the literature and interpretation of law sources with a clear theological and extensive scientific focus, that emphasises particularly on the normative purpose of data protection and Space Law promoted by the economic needs of the moment.

Among the attendees and participants at the award ceremony were the president of the Cañada Blanch Foundation, Juan Viña; the principal of the University of Valencia, Mª Vicenta Mestre; the director of the Cañada Blanch Foundation, Paula Sánchez; the vice-principal for Studies and Language Policy, Isabel Vázquez; and the winner of the scholarship, Roser Almenar, as well as her professors, family and peers.
