The rugby women’s team of the Universitat, runner-up in Spain

The rugby women’s team of the Universitat de València wins the silver medal in the university championship. The championship took place the 7th and 8th of May in the Quatre Carreres sports centre (València), organised by the Valencia Catholic University.

The girls fought for the medal in a final against the Complutense University of Madrid

The first day of the competition it was crucial in order to fight for a medal. The team of the UV, with the trainer Ana Aigneren, won the first two matches of the first day against the University of Málaga and the Pompeu Fabra University.

The match for the semi-finals was played against the Technical University of Madrid. ‘We knew how to deal with the match, we knew how to have control of the ball and of the situations and we could win playing well’ said their trainer.

The final was market by the superiority of the Complutense University of Madrid. The players of the UV won the silver medal, after losing control agains the University of Madrid that arrived to the competition with athletes of gold medal ‘players with a lot of rugby in their body and their head, it was noticeable’ acknowledged Aigneren.   Furthermore, the trainer added: ‘I think that being a more humble team in level and of local competition, we don’t have national experience, I think that we have much merit for having been on this final’.

The men’s team of the UV was in the fifth place.

The team of the UV closes their season in the CEU, since this year the European championship will not be celebrated due to the lack of participating Universities.
