The science journalist Ángela Bernardo Álvarez, author of the book "ACOSO. El #MeToo en la Ciencia Española", visited the Universitat de València this Thursday 3rd March as part of the events celebrating 8M: International Women's Day.

The event was organised by the Equality Commission of the Burjassot-Paterna Campus and the Equality Unit and was attended by the Vice-Principal for Equality, Diversity and Sustainability, Elena Martínez, who introduced the author. The conference-colloquium was held at 12 p.m. in the Sala Lise Meitner of the Faculty of Physics and could also be followed via streaming at this link https://go.uv.es/mamtor/CFF

In 2017, the accusations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein led to the origin of #MeToo. Since then, this phenomenon has brought to light misconduct that had been hidden for decades.

The book “ACOSO #MeToo en la ciencia Española”, by Next Door Publishers, is a journalistic work on sexual harassment and gender-based harassment in universities and public research organizations. In its pages we will find answers to a wide range of questions: What is involved in these behaviours, how are they regulated, what is known about the people who harass, what difficulties do those who suffer problems of this type face, and what is the role of institutions in preventing and curbing this scourge? The book combines interviews and analysis to provide an up-to-date perspective on these issues.

Ángela Bernardo has been an editor at Civio since 2018. She previously worked for other media, such as Hipertextual, JotDown or ileon.com among others. She has received the Next Generation Science Journalist Award (2014), the first ASEBIO Award for Biotechnology Communication and Dissemination (2015), the second prize of the Concha García Campoy Award in digital press (2016), the II José Carlos Pérez Cobo Award (2017), the "Profesor Juan Ramón Zaragoza" award for the best newspaper article published in Aesthetic Medicine (2018) and the V Concha García Campoy Award for Science Journalism (digital press category) in 2019. She has a degree in Biotechnology, she studied to specialise in scientific communication, and completed a master's degree in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
