The Faculty of Psychology of the Universitat de València will organize from 11 to 14 May the Summer Psychology School of the International Master’s Degree on Migrations, which is coordinated by the professor Edelia Villaroya. It will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty and is entitled “Dangerous Words on Migrants”.

The summer School will start on 11 June at 10 a.m. You can check all the information, timetables, lecturers and registration in the following link: https://escuelamim.com/

According to the organizers, “The migrant issue is particularly sensitive because it includes very important economic and political interests and reminds conflicts and inequality among the people.  The more complex is the matter, the more important becomes the related terminology as takes over certain images and feelings to the public opinion. Semantic changes occur faster than ever before and it is impossible to verify all the information related to these issues.”

They stated, “Words are never innocent because they express the thoughts and the essence of the human soul. They reveal the judgement that the individuals and the collectives give to different phenomena and the people that are involved. In the field of human mobility, the term migrant has suffered a gradual loss of his meaning to support and justify actions, prejudices, attitudes and policies against a certain category of people.”

The Summer School 2018 aims to explain the importance of the words and concepts that consciously or not are being used inappropriately on the field of migrations both by the public opinion and the actors that promote it. They cause severe consequences to the life of millions of people and complicate dialogue, the welcoming and the positive interaction among the different elements that constitute our societies.
