The Thirteenth Edition of the Health Fair Held on the Centre of València

The rector of the Universitat de València and the academic authorities corresponding to different fields of study related to health wanted to support this student initiative that seeks to bring together the population and health and, the future professionals with their patients.

On the eve of April 7, World Health Day according to a declaration by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness of different problems and solutions in the field of health, the student association AVEM (Valencian Association of Medical Students) organized the thirteenth edition of the Health Fair.

On Saturday 6 April, students and other people from outside the health world were able to enjoy a series of workshops and training sessions in the Plaza de la Virgen of València, designed with an informative perspective on healthy habits and other information of interest to the entire population.

At the inauguration of this edition, and for the second consecutive year, the rector Universitat de València (Mª Vicenta Mestre), accompanied by the deans of the faculties of Medicine and Dentistry (Francisco Javier Chorro), Pharmacy (Juan Carlos Molto), Psychology (Dolores Sancerni), Nursing and Podiatry (Antoni Merelles) and Physiotherapy (Antoni Alberola), as well as the president of the Ilustre Colegio Oficial de Médicos de València (Official College of Doctors of Valencia) (Mercedes Hurtado), attended the event to support this initiative and to get to know first hand the educational and recreational offer proposed in this new edition.

Lorena Vila, president of AVEM, as responsible for the organization of the event, highlighted the great participation achieved, with seven degrees registered (Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Nutrition, Pharmacy, Psychology and Physiotherapy), thirty tents, more than three hundred volunteers from different disciplines of health and a great citizen participation that has been able to learn, first hand, issues related to many areas of human health, as well as the importance of a "Health for everyone".

The rector Mª Vicenta Mestre highlighted the social involvement of students, demonstrating the importance of the student association movement "to build an active citizenship that allows us to raise the quality of life of our society.  Likewise, both the rector and the highest authorities of the aforementioned faculties have expressed their institutional recognition of the organizational capacity of the association and of the student body which, in the words of the rector, "are the soul of a university such as ours which, 520 years after its foundation, continues to serve the Valencian society".
