Pablo Faus Faus (Secondary Education Institute-IES María Enríquez, Gandia), Marco Nieto Pérez (IES el Ravatxol, Valencia) and Javier Cardells Peris (Colegio San Pablo Valencia, Moncada), have been awarded in the national phase of the XXXII Physics Olympiad, with two silver medals and an honourable mention, respectively. It is an international competition in which students from many countries participate and is organized by the Royal Spanish Society of Physics (RSEF) in its state phase.

The students awarded in the state phase (April 23 and in virtual mode) previously participated in the Valencian phase, held on February 25 and consisting of a written test of Physics problems and exercises. This was organised by the University of Valencia – through the Faculty of Physics and the Delegation for Incorporation into the University – and the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

The four award-winning students of the Valencian phase were Leonardo Costa Lesage (IES Pere Boïl, Manises); Pablo Faus Faus; Marco Nieto Pérez; and Javier Cardells Peris. The substitutes were Alberto Mateos Roig (IES Joanot Martorell, Valencia) and Andreu Moll Morera (IES Gabriel Ciscar, Oliva). The teachers of the winners are Nieves Fernández, Mari Carmen Salvador, Isabel María Padín, Vicente Aparicio, Mercedes Cabria and Dolores Costa.

Baccalaureate students who participate in this test are eligible for local prizes that include, among other things, 1,000 euros for each student when they enrol in the UV. In addition, they can extend their participation in the national and international phase (the latter planned in Lithuania from 17 to 25 July, in mixed modality face-to-face or online) and Latin American (in Brazil, in September).

Of the group of 52 students from 22 different centres who participated in the October pre-selection test, 23 received a physics course of more than 72 hours taught by teachers from the two universities, prior to the local competition test. As of this year, and as a result of a global reduction in the number of people classified at the state level, only the first four will move to the national phase.

The local organising committee of the Physics Olympiad at the Valencian level formed by the professors of the University of Valencia Chantal Ferrer and Mª Jesús Hernández, as well as a representation of the faculty of the Faculty of Physics who has taught the course.
