Genre stereotypes, assigned roles, vital cycles, identities... are some of the themes addressed in Relecturas. Museum Itineraries from a Gender Perspective is a project financed by the Valencian Government through a study of the Faculty of Geography and History, led by Ester Alba. It offers visitors a different view of the exhibitions through a genre perspective, aiming to promote equality in diversity.

This project is thought as a continuous dialogue between the museum and its environment. Therefore, they will link museums that connect several museums such as the Museo Nacional de Cerámica y Artes Suntuarias González Martí, the Museu de Prehistòria de València, the Museu de Història de València (MhV), the Museu Valencià d’Etnologia, the Museo del Palmito d’Aldaia and the Museu Comarcal de l’Horta Sud Josep Ferrís March. Likewise, it will allow connecting Valencia to towns from Horta Sud such as Mislata, Torrent and Aldaia. It will encourage cultural tourism as well. Additionally, technology is used to help the visitor to reinterpret the museum. A web with several levels of information permits the visitor to decide how much information they need to reinterpret each piece.

As the coordinator of the project Liliane Cuesta indicates (Museo Nacional de Cerámica y Artes Suntuarias González Martí) “genre is neither innate nor static, therefore, visiting these museums allows us to study the different stereotypes that have existed throughout history and still prevail in many cases. This way, Relecturas is an excellent way to invite the general public, especially the new generations, to question genre roles and a more equal society.

Relecturas does not end here. It intends to add to the project new museums, new pieces, signs, cycles and conferences. This way, the project fulfils the objective of the subsidies given by the Valencian government and the Conselleria de Cultura: contribute to promote, disseminate, design and organize cultural and promotional activities in the Valencian Community.
