The award-giving ceremony took place within the 2^nd Conference on Inclusive Culture. The conference also held the panel of discussion “Participación Cultural en Contexto Urbano” in the Assembly Hall of the Building of the Councillorship of Youth. 76 people enrolled to the project, which was presented by the Vice-principal for Culture and Sports, Antonio Ariño; and Roberto Jaramillo, Councilman for Youth of the City Council of Valencia.

“Orriols: un barrio que cuenta” is a project that compiles and updates popular stories to crumble stereotypes on certain areas or groups in Orriols. The objective of the project “Orriols: un barrio que cuenta” was writing a book that would compile different stories. It was published in June and can be downloaded freely. A group of mothers of the neighbourhood have found the project very interesting. They have used the multicultural stories to create new ones in order to transmit the young ones educative values.

These projects had already been selected by Emergentes in 2017, which is a plan for social innovation promoted by the Office of the Vice-principal for Culture and Equality of the Universitat de València. It has provided €75,500 to 26 projects since 2016. It aims to promote cultural and social inclusion in different neighbourhoods of Valencia by means of performing arts, pedagogy, urbanism and visual arts among vulnerable groups. They also intend to raise awareness on the value of cultural education to stimulate social change.

The jury was formed by Antonio Ariño; Elizabet Catalá, social worker and expert of Youth of the City Council of Chirivella; Miguel Ángel Hoyos, RTVE journalist and professor of the master’s degree in Creativity of the Universitat de Barcelona; Adriana Ballestín, expert of Youth of the City Council of Valencia; and Ana Chillarón, expert in Management of the Universitat de València.
