At 12h in the Paraninfo (Main hall) of the Universitat de València, a minute of silence will be realised before the celebration of the award ceremony Extraordinary Doctorate Awards. Academic community is invited to assemble at the gates of the Office of the Principal building.

Yesterday, Thursday, at 16h, an occupational accident occurred with fatal outcome in the Principal Peset Hall of Residence. The accident occurred in the assembly of a scaffolding structure in the courtyard that articulates the two buildings of the Residence. These constructions were being carried out, with the presence of the figure of preventive recourse designed to supervised the safety of this action, in the context of restoration work of facades and courtyard of this emblematic residential complex.

The worker was an specialist in scaffolding assemblies and has passed all medical tests and had the certificates for the development of the functions. This worker belonged to specialised company contracted by the company adjudicated in the frameworks agreements of construction of the Universitat de València.

The principal of the Universitat de València arrived at the facilities, and also the vice-principal of Culture and Sports, of whom depends the residence, the vice-principal of Equality, Diversity and Sustainability, of whom depends the Health and Safety and the Environment Service, the director and technician of this Service, the vice-principal of Economics and Infrastructures, responsible of Technical Unit and Technical and Maintenance Service, and the director and head of this services, the economic assistant manager, director and deputy director of the residence. Delegates of prevention of the University were informed and some of them went also to the accident site.

The labour inspectorate and forensic experts went to the Principal Peset Hall of Residence to start with the actions and reports legally, counting at all times with the collaboration of the academic institution. The Universitat de València will start an internal investigation to determinate accurately the causes of the accident.

The principal of the Universitat de València will convene, as a matter of urgency, a meeting today of health and safety committee and has advised dean and directors of the centre.

The Universitat de València expresses its condolences to the family of the worker, and to his team mates, lamenting this unfortunate accident.
