The Universitat de València convenes the first Doctoral Theses Dissemination Conference

The Universitat de València has convened the first Doctoral Theses Dissemiantion Conference, in order to present the research carried out by its doctoral students. The conference will take place on October 19 and a one-week stay at the University of Harvard during 2019, a € 500 prize and another € 300 prize will be awarded. The deadline for submission of applications ends on September 14 and the bases can be consulted at http://ir.uv.es/zvZv0XN.

The I Doctoral Theses Dissemination Conference has been organised by the Doctoral School and the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the Universitat de València. Candidates shall write their proposal for participation in a language simple and accessible also designed to explain their doctoral thesis in a three-minute speech. The conference, in the Joan Plaça Auditorium of the Botanic Garden, aims to promote the interest in the dissemination and the scientific communication, as well as to increase the scientific culture of citizens.

The application to participate in the conference must be submitted by registering on the web esdeveniments.uv.es before September 15, 2018, and submitting a copy to the General Registry of the University of Valencia (Av. Blasco Ibáñez 13), in any of its auxiliary offices, or in any official registry of those provided in article 38.4 of Law 30/1992, of November 26, of the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations. On the registration form, an informative text of a maximum of 1,500 words must be attached which will present the subject of research and the impact that it may have on both the scientific community and society.

The I Doctoral Theses Dissemination Conference will reward the communicative capacity of participants. Thus, two people appointed by the Doctoral School board and one by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit board of the Universitat de València will select the participants (among the applications received) for the October 19 conference. The assessment criteria will be the explanatory clarity and the text structure, the interest of the investigation and coherence, creativity and originality, as well as the correct use of syntax and spelling rules, as well as the use of gender-inclusive language.

The content of the presentations shall refer to the research being carried out to elaborate the doctoral thesis, and can be done in Catalan, Spanish or English. The examining board will be formed by José Vicente Bagán, director of the Doctorate School of the University of Valencia; Beatriz Gallardo, researcher of the Language Theory and Communication Sciences Department; Carme Agustí, researcher of the Cellular Biology, Functional Biology and Physical Anthropology Department; Cristina Gaona, doctoral student at the University; and Pere Estupinyà, scientific communicator and writer.

Those enrolled in any doctoral program at the University of Valencia, at least in the second year, can participate in this conference, and it will be compulsory to not have defended the thesis on the date the conference takes place, October 19, 2018, and have the approval of the thesis directors.
