Cristina García Pascual, lecturer at the Universitat de València, will be the director of the new Literature Society. This initiative has been supported by the office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport in order to promote the love for reading and motivate creation and literary imagination with a schedule aimed at the university community and society in general.

The Literature Society aims to be a bridge between literature and university life. It has been created as a space for cultural activities like talks, meetings with writers, conferences, congresses, round tables and writing and reading workshops.

The director, Cristina García Pascual, claims the Literature Society is aimed at ‘those who read too much or those who read too little; to those who usually write or those who want to stop writing; to poets and to people who want to start reading poetry; to people in love with thrillers, historical or science-fiction novels or people who only read manuals and notes and wish to enrich their mind by holding in their hands a story about another world that’s possible’.

Cristina García Pascual is a Professor in Legal Philosophy and a founding member of the Human Rights Institute of the Universitat de València. Her research work is focused on legal theory and philosophy, with special attention to human rights and the feminist theory. She has explored the use of literature as an educational tool in her books, articles and lectures.

Currently, she co-directs the Master’s Degree in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice, where she has kept for over a decade a seminar programme that has been visited by jurists, politicians, writers, poets and other important culture personalities. Besides, she coordinated for many years the promotion of reading campaign ‘Te acercamos a la lectura y la escritura’, supported by Booket (Grupo Planeta) and Àmbit Cultural.
