Universitat de València distributes 1430kg of fruit to those affected by the DANA on the Day of Healthy Universities

Universitat de València has distributed 1430kg of fruit to those affected by the DANA in Paiporta and Alfafar (in Parque Alcosa) The initiative comes from the Day of the Valencian Network of Healthy Public Universities promoted by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Sustainability, Cooperation and Healthy Life.

Each year, there are fruit distributions in the Universitat de València faculties, but due to the change to online lessons and that shortcomings in the areas affected by the DANA, the office of the Vice-Principal directed by Pilar Serra proposed to the Deans that this year’s fruit distributions were destined to the flooded areas.

This fruit is ecologic and local, managed in collaboration with the City Council of Paiporta and the Kolectivo Parke Alkosa. Universitat de València got 680kg from Camí de l’Horta, supplier to the Mercat Sostenible and Proximitat de la Universitat in Burjassot, which was donating to Paiporta and Picanya. It was receive on 27 November in the Paiporta auditorium. The fruit was distributed in less than two hours and part of it was brought directly to the homes of the movility-challenged.

The University also contacted Racó dels Gínjols, supplier to the Mercat Agroecològic of the University to get 680kg and distribute them in Alfafar’s Parque Alcosa. It was received on 29 November in Kolectivo Parke Alkosa, thanks to the volunteers. Racó de Gínjols added 35kg more and the other suppliers (Hort Evològic de Nàquera, Casa Antiga, Saifresc and Silvestre) added 35 more.

The Valencian Network of Healthy Public Universities (XVUPS) consisting on Universitat de València, Universitat Politècnica de València, Universitat d’Alacant, Universitat Jaume I and Universitat Miguel Hernàndez organises activities to commemorate the creation of this network.

The XVUPS aims to promote wellbeing and health in the university environment by incorporating 2030Agenda goals for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Since 2014, the Network chooses a main focus for their activities or promoting health and sustainability.
