The Universitat de València inaugurates September with concerts, exhibitions and workshops by the ACTIVA calls

The Universitat de València begins the academic year with a cultural programme that combines music, visual arts and creative workshops. We are talking about the winning proposals from the ACTIVA calls, promoted by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Society to give voice to the university community and support both cultural projects from the students (Activa Culture) and open musical initiatives to the whole UV (Activa Music). Exhibitions curated by university students and concerts under the charge of promising musical groups for the Valencian scene coming from the UV are some of the proposals for the beginning of the course.

Photography and collective memoire in Espai Vives

From 16 September to 16 October, the UV presents in Espai Vives, in the Blasco Ibáñez campus, two exhibitions set out by UV students. On the one hand, ‘Jesús Císcar y el arte de la Flânerie’, under the charge of the doctor Natalia Polo Chocano, she reunites twenty inedited photographs in big format by the Valencian photojournalist, known for his long trajectory in El País(more than 30 years) and recently in elDiario.es. Far from the informative proximity, this pictures show a more intimate side of Císcar’s particular look, fruit of personal walks and without a professional goal.

On the other hand the, the sample ‘Vinaròs.jpg. La mirada fotogràfica de la gent del poble’, curated by Paula Moliner Brau, Master's Degree student in History of Art and Visual Culture in the UV, traces a path through the social, cultural and urbanistic transformation of this Castellon district from a photographic background lent by her neightbours.

Writing as self-care

During this week other UV students’ projects will be done, like the creative writing space in the Faculty of Medicine, presented by Aicha Yassin, English Philology graduate and currently fifth year student in Medicine. Through three workshops celebrated on 18, 24, and 25 September in Espai Vives from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, this project pretends to apply writing as a tool to promote self-knowledge and self-care between medicine students, residents, doctors, and professors from the Medicine Faculty through this reflection, critical thinking and collective lecture.

A collective concert with ten music formations

One of the central themes of this beginning of programme made in and by the UV will come on 24 September with the collective concert of Activa Music in the La Nau Cultural Centre. Ten formations integrated by students, professor and personal staff of the UV will show the creative richness of the university community in styles that go from chamber music to folk in Valencian, going from indie to popular music.

From 6:00pm, the Sapiència Chapel of LaNau will host the performances: Antonio Morant, Dúo ÍridaandQuartet Estellés. Later, at 6:45pm in the Senate, the Colla Pastrana Unió Musical de Llíria will perform. And, finally, the MatildeSalvador Hall (from 7:00 to 9:30pm) will offer the concerts by Terra i Sal,Cor,Wisau,Relaxin’ Bananas Quartet,Florencio AndréandMova. Admission is free until full capacity.

Culture made in the university

With global grant of 11.000€ to support cultural projects done by students (Activa Culture) and 5.000€ for musical proposals under the charge of musical formations from the UV (Activa Music), the ACTIVA calls have been consolidated as a creation platform inside the UV. To them other initiatives add up promoted as well from the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Society, like Activa Fest, to support festivals from the ValencianCommunity, and Residir la investigación, that contacts artists with UV research groups to explore new creative languages.
