The Universitat de València has given a firm step towards the consolidation of juridical research in the patrimonial field with the approval, by part of the GoverningCouncil and the Board of Trustees, of the creation of the Institut Universitari de Dret Patrimonial – Patrimonium. This new academic structure, pioneer in Spain, will be the first to be dedicated exclusively to the interdisciplinary study of Patrimonial Law -this is, the regulations and institutions through which the person’s economic activities are done and ordered-.

With more than 25 years of collaboration between researchers from five departments from the Faculty of Law, the future of the institute counts with a highly consolidated team: 18 full-time doctors, 77 recognised six-yearly increments and more than 30 projects of R+D+I financed in competitive calls. The proposal aspires to transform this trajectory in a stable structure that promotes research, transference and teaching in the area.

Among their goals stand out:

  • Becoming a national and international referent in juridical patrimonial research
  • Developing an interdisciplinary research environment in which they constantly interact, opening to the collaboration with other researchers and research centres
  • Promoting relations with international companies, administrations and organisms
  • Promoting postgraduate education of excellence and institutionalised transfer

The initiative will be now remitted to the superior organisms for its validation, among them, the Valencian Department of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment of the Government of the Valencian Community. The definitive resolution will allow their registration in official records and publications in the Official Journal of the Valencian Government (DOGV).

With the birth of the Patrimonium, the Universitat de València bets for a holistic international and transformative vision of the Patrimonial Law, incorporating key elements such as digitalisation, sustainability and global governance.
