The Universitat de València's Choral Society and Tymbals DiPercusión performed on Sunday, June 26th, as part of the Serenades Festival that is being held at the Cloister of La Nau until July 2nd.

This year marks the 35th edition of this initiative organised by the Universitat de València and the Valencian Institute of Culture, who uses the cloister as part of the Summer Night Festival. Most of the concerts of the Serenades Festival (#Serenates2022) will be held at 10 PM at the cloister of La Nau, and tickets can be purchased at http://www.latenda.es/entrades with a symbolic price of 3 euros.

The Universitat de València's Choral Society performed a celebration concert called ‘Ieri, oggi, domani’ for the 75th anniversary of the group on Sunday, June 26th. Orlando Consort, one of the most outstanding vocal groups on the international scene in the performance of Renaissance music, participated in the concert. It was a dialogue between traditional and contemporary music based in the past and had the work ‘Scattered Rhymes’ by Tarick O’Regan for quartet, soloist and choir as a central axis. The work is based on ‘Messe Nuestro Dame’ by Machaut and various sonets of Petrarca. Furthermore, the concert premiered the work 'Imaginatio Valentiae’ by the young composer Llum Martín. This performance consisted on a recreation of The Song of the Sibyl and the Mystery Play of Elche, and was one of the most touching moments of the night. The programme made the most out of the possibilities of the Cloister of La Nau and explored new sonorities and possibilities in an enlivened concert full of contrasts. The director of the Choral Society, Francesc Valldecabres, stated that “this concert is a fantastic opportunity for us to know new ways of working and to learn with one of the most renowned groups of the international scene, with a risky and varied programme that calls for a very versatile choir and in which we have all been bravely involved.”

The Universitat de València's Choral Society was founded in 1974 and is comprised of students, graduates and professors of the Universitat. It has won all the editions of the National University Choir Competition. It also owns the highest university collective award, the Laurel Leaf of Culture of the Valencian Press Association, the Distinction of the Order of Jaume I, the Clar de Llum Award of the Universitat de València, the High Distinction of the Valencian Government, and various gold medals such as the Gold Medal of the City of València, among other distinctions.

In addition, the Cloister received Tymbals DiPercusión on Sunday, June 26th, at 12 PM, a project dedicated to people with functional and intellectual diversity that aims to improve the patients’ quality of life through percussion groups. Tymbals DiPercusión uses different musical styles and cultures, as well as instruments from Afro-Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Oriental and Latin music, among others, to treat styles that are accessible and attractive to people with functional and intellectual diversity because of their striking instruments and the strength of their rhythms. Batucadas and percussion groups have always had an activist social role. This projects presents diversity as an inherent characteristic of human beings.

Serenades, co-produced by the Universitat de València and the Valencian Institute of Culture, has had overwhelming success throughout its history and has been developed in conjunction with the Valencian Provincial Council, Valencia’s City Hall through the Palau de la Música de València, the Valencian Provincial Council, the Banco Sabadell Foundation, the Bancaja Foundation, the College of Art and Design of Valencia (EASD) and the Women’s Legacy project.
