The Universitat de València signs an agreement for the 5G network in the city of Valencia

The Universitat de València has signed a collaborative agreement with the ‘Universitat Politècnica de València’ and the ‘Generalitat Valenciana to turn Valencia into the first European city to have access to the 5G network.

The Palau de Congressos of Valencia hosted the sign of a collaborative agreement between the Universitat de València, the Universitat Politècnica de València, the Generalitat Valenciana and Valencia’s city hall to develop and to promote the implementation of the 5G network in the city of Valencia, thus to boost a more modern transformation of the productive structure that increases the efficiency in communications and in the exchange of information.

This agreement pertains to the ‘Pla d’Acció’ for the transformation of the ‘Model Econòmic 2027’ and it moves forward into the implementation of the 5G National Plan 2018-2020 that stablishes that technology will be the essential component for the digital transformation of society.

The development and the implementation of this new technology will suppose an improvement in the efficiency of services, publics and privates, which will turn the city and its institutions into a key referent at an international level.

The Principal of the Universitat de València Maria Vicenta Mestre, has affirmed that ‘agreements as this one are an example of the commitment of the institutions to keep moving forward and to develop a more participative, sophisticated, sustainable, intelligent, inclusive and equal society.’ Furthermore, she has also remarked that ‘the arrival of this new technology will propitiate the appearance of new challenges and other areas of knowledge where the Universitat can provide a lot.’

On his part, the councillor of Treasury and economic model Vicent Soler, has highlighted that ‘this collaboration of the Generalitat Valenciana’ is related to the stake in the change in the productive model and aims to be an example for the rest of Valencian citizens. Soler also wanted to thank the collaboration between institutions, specially to both of the Valencian universities.

The first deputy mayor of Valencia Sandra Gómez has thanked to the institutions that have signed this commitment to place Valencia internationally, in turning into the first European city to have this new technology and that will be present in the ‘Global 5G Event’ the 17th and 18th of June, where the first demonstrations will be made on the streets.

To conclude, the Principal of the Universitat Politècnica de València, Francisco José Mora, has remarked that this congress is the result of a great team work composed by people from the institutions that have signed the agreement and that alliances as this one will determine the future of our society.
