Universitat de València wins 8 gold medals and 2 silver medals in CADU finals for team sports

On this Wednesday, 6th of March, the competition of Regional University Sports Championship (CADU) for team sports ended, winning a total of 8 gold medals, 2 silver medals and the gold in paddle tennis. The competition was organised by Universitat de València.

Women’s basketball team, men’s basketball team, women’s handball team, women’s football team, men’s futsal team, women’s rugby 7 team, women’s volleyball team, men’s volleyball team and paddle tennis came out as the autonomic winners, whereas the women’s futsal team and men’s rugby 7 team became second place in the autonomic competition.

Of the matches played during the day, the basketball teams of the Universitat de València won both of them: the girls closed the scoreboard against the University of Alacant with a total of 72 points against the 55 points of the visiting university; and the boys played a very tight match but finally managed to win against the Catholic University of Valencia (UCV 68 - 73 UV).

On the handball match, the UV was represented by the women’s team that won against the Universitat Jaume I with 38 goals against UJI’s 36 goals.

On the futsal match, the boys won against the Catholic University of Valencia (UCV 1 - 5 UV), whereas the girls lost against the University of Alacant (UA 4 - 0 UV).

The men’s and women’s volleyball teams ended the tournament with the scoreboard of the rival universities empty. The boys won 3 - 0 against the UJI and the girls won 3 - 0 against the UA.

The women’s football team scored up to 9 goals, opposing to its rival the University of Alacant, who scored 0 goals.

On the rugby match, the girls won both of their matches (UV 19 - 0 UJI and UV 39 - 0 UPV) and the boys lost the game against the UPV (UV 7 - 19 UPV) and won against the UCH (UV 26 - 17 UCH).

Autonomic champion in paddle tennis

Finally, the paddle tennis team was proclaimed the university autonomic champion after the match against the UCV. The championship ended with the victory of the men’s team, composed of Sergio Icardo and Salva Oria (6-2 and 6-1) and also the Mixed gender victory with Tamara Icardo and Francisco Rodríguez (6-1 and 6-2). The women’s team, composed of Sonia Monrabal and Esther García did not get the same result, as they lost the match 3-6 and 3-6.

Now, the winning teams are looking towards their next objective, the Spanish University Championships.
