The Universitat de València wins European silver in indoor soccer
The indoor soccer men's team of the Universitat de València has achieved a historic result in the European University Championship, which took place from 17 to 25 July in Zagreb (Croacia). They won the silver medal after a brilliant performance, which made them runner-up of Europe and reinforces the high level of the UV in the International sphere.

A steady pace in the group stage
The university team, placed in Group B, started the championship losing against Paris-Aclay University (3-5). However, the team reacted soon, and with sheer determination achieved two key victories against Lappeenranta-Lahti University (6‑1) and Debrecen University (3‑1), which ensured they arrived to quarterfinals.
On their way to the final: emotion and determination
In the knockout round, the UV was the protagonist of two exciting matches. First, in the quarterfinals, they won 7‑6 to Split University. Then, in the semifinals, they offered their best version against Varsovia University (4‑3), getting the ticket to a final which was already a milestone.
A historic silver
In the match for the title, which took place in 25 July, the selection competed against the Azerbaijan Sport Academy. Despite a titanic effort, the Valencian team lost 2-7 against a fierce adversary, winning a well deserved silver medal which tops a participation to remember.
First level individual recognitions
The excelent role of the UV was also reflected individually. Jorge Arechaga Lull was electedMost Valuable Player (MVP) of the championship, thanks to his key impact in every phase. In addition, both him andIgnacio Parreño Tébar were included in the Quinteto Ideal (All‑Star Team) of the tournament, among the best five players of the championship.
More international representation of the UV
The Universitat de València has also been present this month of July in other European university dates. In Covilhã (Portugal), the women's handball team competed with determination andcommitment, as well as the university selection of orientation, which participated in the championship celebrated inŁódź (Poland). Even without a trophy in these disciplines, both representations contribute to the growth and projection of Valencian university sports on a European scale.
