The Universitat de València is the only Valencian institution of higher education in the Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments 2018. This international ranking measures the academic and research performance of more than 370 centres that have Sports plans. The Universitat de València is located in the 9-16 range among Spanish universities.

The centres that appear in this ranking must fulfil two requirements: they have sports activities and they have carried out research during the last 5 years. This ranking, which was first published in 2016, is a version of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The Universitat de València ranges 97-134 in Europe and 201-300 in the World.

In Spain, the first positions are for the Universities of Zaragoza, Granada and Politècnica de Madrid. Internationally, the first positions are for the University of Copenhagen (Denmark), the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (Norway) and Deakin University (Australia). In Europe, Loughborough University (United Kingdom) occupies the third position.

The Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments 2018 was updated last Friday. Universities are now classified by research and education performance indicators. They include the number of articles published in Web of Science, total citations, citations per article, articles published in the 25% most important magazines and the percentage of article with international collaboration. Bibliometric data come from Web of Science.
