The Universitat joins the Global Action Week for Education

The Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Science of the Univeristat de València hosts on Wednesday, the 17th of April, a group of acts on the occasion of the Global Action Week for Education (SAME). The objective is to work for the right of an inclusive, equal and quality education and to educate in the fight against the environmental degradation and towards a social and environmental sustainable model.

The seminar will be inaugurated at 10 AM in the Faculty of Philosophy, and at 10.30 AM there will be a dialogue tandem about ‘We defend education, we hold the world’ with Victoria Pellicer, technical in Energy of Naves and Encarna Durà from the Foundation ‘Entreculturas’ of the Valencian Community.

At 11.30 AM the global campaign for education will be presented and then, at 12 AM a route to the old Turia river bed will start from the hall of the Faculty (zone 7). Once the participants are there, among which there will be students of different age and educational centres, as well as other groups active in the behalf of the Global Campaign for education like teachers, Ong’s or syndicates, will defend the sustainability of the world with the construction of a Scrabbles of sustainability. At 1 AM a manifest will be read.

This year, the SAME wants to visualise the situation of the right to education and, especially, its presence in the programme of Objectives for the Sustainable Development. The organization emphasises the importance that has that people demands political representatives who hold them accountable to achieve ODS4, and actively participate in the needed process for the equal, inclusive and quality education to be a reality, remarking the fundamental role of education in the fight against the environmental degradation towards a social and environmental sustainable model.

The future of the planet depends on citizens being able to change the current economic model and the systems of production and consumption. These seminars celebrated in the Universitat promote a mobilisation with different acts to claim this basic right for everyone in the world.

This year, the Global Campaign for Education has a slogan ‘We defend education, we hold the world’. More than 124 countries have joint this action. Global Action Week for Education (SAME) is a yearly campaign which takes places in the whole world to work about the importance of education in countries both in the North and in the South. It has an awareness-raising character of the public opinion and it is organised by the Global Campaign for Education (CME).
